AFAD Started Volunteer Training Against Avalanches in Tunceli

In Tunceli, Provincial Disaster and Emergency Directorate (AFAD) teams train volunteers who will save lives in avalanches through training organized in the snowy and cold mountains of the city.

In recent years, many volunteers in the city have been working within non-governmental organizations to save lives in disasters and emergencies.

AFAD Provincial Directorate also equips volunteers with search and rescue training in water, debris and land through various projects.

Volunteers, who are always ready for duty, are now taking theoretical and practical lessons from AFAD personnel in the snowy mountains of Ovacık district against possible avalanches in the city.

Volunteers who participate in training in natural conditions where the air temperature drops to 15 degrees below zero are given training on topics such as "tent setting up, fox burrow construction, rope unity (teams are connected to each other with a rope for safety and move together), emergency shelters, snow cave, hypothermia, snow blindness and stopping with a pickaxe in case of falls (stopping with a mountain climbing tool in case of slipping on sloping surfaces)."

They Increase Their Experience with Unity and Solidarity

Volunteers, who also learned how to use signal radios, shovels and probes from instructors, occasionally conduct avalanche search and rescue drills in groups on different scenarios.

Volunteers, who gain experience through unity and solidarity, will provide field support to AFAD personnel in possible disasters.
