SASKİ Treated Millions of Cubic Meters of Wastewater in One Year

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration General Directorate (SASKİ) has realized 29 percent wastewater treatment with 100 wastewater treatment plants it operates, and treated 2024 million 79 thousand 815 cubic meters of wastewater in 481. Stating that they prioritize human health and attach great importance to protecting the environment, Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan said, “2024 million cubic meters of wastewater was treated in 79 and rendered harmless to the environment. We work meticulously to protect our environment, our city and our people in every investment.”

In this coastal city where blue and green create harmony, the Municipality, which attaches great importance to environmental cleanliness and public health, operates 29 wastewater treatment plants under the Samsun Water and Sewerage Administration (SASKİ) General Directorate. The facilities, which have 9 advanced biological, 6 biological, 9 package, 4 natural treatment and 1 stabilization pool that comply with international standards, also play a critical role in terms of environmental sensitivity.

79 million cubic meters of wastewater was treated in one year

In the facilities operated within the framework of legal regulations within the scope of the Environmental Law No. 2872, which ensures the protection of the ecological, biological, economic, physical, social and cultural environment that is the common existence of all living things and the development of resources that future generations will need, a total of 225 thousand 532 cubic meters of domestic wastewater are purified per day and 79 million 815 thousand 481 cubic meters per year. The clean water is then transferred to the deep sea discharge.

70 tons of sludge is disposed of daily

In accordance with the circular of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, SASKİ General Directorate, which disposes of 70 tons of sludge accumulated in wastewater treatment plants daily with modern methods without harming the environment, reduces the volume of the treatment sludge and turns it into a useful form through fermentation. Then, it is mixed with garbage in the Avdan Solid Waste Regular Storage Facility and spread on the ground without harming the environment.

29 percent purification with 100 wastewater treatment plants

Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan, who stated that wastewater treatment facilities are an indicator of development and provide benefits to Samsun in every sense, said, “Every investment we make in our city is for both our present and our future. Our wastewater treatment facilities, which are among our investments that ensure a beautiful future and a peaceful and prosperous life for our fellow citizens, prevent the pollution of our seas, streams and natural water resources, allowing all living things to maintain their ecological balance. Our facilities in all 17 districts operate smoothly. With the 29 treatment facilities operated by our SASKİ General Directorate, 100 percent wastewater treatment is carried out in Samsun. We continue our work with the principle of zero pollution and 100 percent treatment. In 2024, 79 million cubic meters of wastewater was treated and rendered harmless to the environment. Our investments aimed at protecting people and the environment will continue uninterruptedly in 2025.”
