Meerut Metro Test Drives Begin

The Meerut Metro trial runs have begun with the trains being rigorously tested for safety, performance and passenger experience on NCRTC’s new infrastructure. These tests are seen as a major step towards innovative solutions and improving efficiency in urban transport.

Test Protocols and Security-Focused Assessments

The Meerut Metro trial runs are based on comprehensive testing protocols to ensure the safety and efficiency of the trains. The trains are run between Meerut South and Meerut Central Stations to analyse elements such as track stability, traction systems and Train Control Management System (TCMS). In the first phase, the trains will be operated manually at low speeds, with the speeds gradually increased in subsequent tests.

During dynamic tests, real conditions are simulated using sandbags for weight and balance assessments. Additionally, safety checks on curved rails and integration of platform screen doors (PSD) will be performed to increase operational reliability. International standards are applied as a guide for each test to ensure passenger comfort and optimum performance.

Passenger Comfort Increases with Innovative Train Sets

The 12 three-coach train sets for Meerut Metro have been manufactured in Savli district of Gujarat and offer various comfort features for the passengers. Air-conditioned interiors, USB charging ports, ergonomic seats and handles keep the passenger comfort at the forefront of the modern train sets. Ten of these trains are waiting at the Duhai depot ready for service.

Meerut Metro Corridor and Integrated Systems

Meerut Metro runs along a 23-kilometer corridor and consists of 13 stations. Three of these stations are underground. Meerut Metro is also the first metro line in India to share infrastructure with semi-high-speed Namo Bharat trains. This integration will ensure a smoother travel experience for passengers.

Next Steps and Future Plans

Meerut Metro continues to conduct trial runs to fine-tune operations and prepare for full-scale service. NCRTC’s commitment to innovation and safety makes this project a major transportation milestone for the region.
