Honey Production Increases with Beekeeping Development Project in Şırnak
Şırnak Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry contributes to the development of beekeeping with the events it organizes for local farmers. In this context, the Şırnak Governorship and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which was implemented in cooperation with “Beekeeping Development Project” It is aimed to increase the honey production in the region significantly. Within the scope of the project, total 4,5 million pounds 4 beehives were distributed with the budget.
Honey Production Potential of Şırnak
Şırnak is a very suitable region for honey production with its nature and flora. As stated by Governor Birol Ekici, farmers who produce the best honey in Turkey are making great efforts to increase the quality of this valuable product. Şırnak Plateau is an ideal place to increase honey production as it contains the natural resources required for beekeeping.
Supports to Farmers
As stated by Şırnak Agriculture and Forestry Director Oktay Sezgin, 99 beehives were delivered to 792 beekeepers and a beekeeping kit was delivered to each beekeeper during the ceremony. These supports are an important step for farmers to continue their beekeeping activities more efficiently. These supports provided within the scope of the project include the necessary tools and equipment as well as the beehives.
Economic Contributions of Beekeeping
Beekeeping makes significant contributions to both the local economy and agricultural production. With these projects, 70 percent of which are state grants, it is aimed to increase honey production and develop beekeeping in Şırnak. As of 2025, with 4 hives per year, 710 tons of honey This situation will both increase the income level of farmers and contribute to the economic development of the region.
