Work has begun on the Urban Renewal Project Behind the Tomb, one of the most important legs of the Darülmülk Project, one of Turkey's largest revitalization projects, carried out by Konya Metropolitan Municipality and Karatay Municipality.
Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay and Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca examined the ongoing works behind the Mevlana Tomb on site and received information about the latest situation.
“WE ARE REALIZING ONE OF THE BIGGEST TRANSFORMATION PROJECTS IN TURKEY WITH OUR KARATAY MUNICIPALITY”
Providing information about the work after the examination, Mayor Altay said that they were carrying out very intensive work to reveal the ancient history of Konya within the scope of the Darülmülk Project.
Noting that they carried out one of the largest transformation projects in Turkey with Karatay Municipality in the 100 thousand square meter area located behind the Mevlana Tomb and between Ali Ulvi Kurucu Street, Mayor Altay said, “Expropriation works were carried out by our Karatay Municipality. The approvals of the projects were completed. We started this project as our Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Konya Metropolitan Municipality and Karatay Municipality. Currently, both the restoration of historical artifacts and the work on the arasta have started. Hopefully, we will start the construction of the Mevlevi Dervish Lodge next to the Mevlana Tomb right away with the spring months.”
AN IMPORTANT PROJECT IN THE HEART OF KONYA
Mayor Altay, who stated that a new center will emerge in the next few years with social facilities and trade areas where visitors to Konya can meet all their needs, said, “In addition, this important project in the heart of Konya will be completed with the Archaeology and Ethnography Museum that we will build with our Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As we always say in Konya, the culture of working together has very important benefits for the city. This project is one of its best examples. I would like to thank our Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca and his team for their support of the project. Hopefully, we will witness the increase in the work within the scope of the project here starting from spring. I hope it will be beneficial to our city.”
“WE SEE A REFLECTION OF THE KONYA MODEL MUNICIPALITY HERE”
Karatay Mayor Hasan Kılca also said, “After it was declared as an urban renewal area by our President, a new study had started here with our Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Metropolitan Municipality. Our project studies are over, now we have started construction work. There are many urban renewal buildings that both our Metropolitan Municipality and our municipality will build. We actually see a reflection of the Konya Model Municipality here. Within the scope of the Darülmülk Project, hopefully, places for all visitors to our city will emerge. I hope these studies will be beneficial to our city and our country.”
