Mod That Brought Grand Theft Auto 4 Map to GTA 5 Has Been Removed

Earlier this month, a mod that brought the entirety of Liberty City to Grand Theft Auto 5 garnered a lot of attention from players. Called the “Liberty City Preservation Project,” the mod integrated not only the map, but also vehicles, pedestrians, interiors, ambiance, radio stations, and more into the world of GTA 5. In a way, the mod felt like an unofficial expansion pack for GTA 5.

The mod quickly became very popular and was loved by players. However, after the mod became popular, Rockstar Games requested that the mod be removed, stating that it could create legal issues. According to estimates, Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive warned the mod team for copyright infringement, causing the mod to be removed.

Take-Two's Copyright Policy and Past Practices

The removal of the Liberty City Preservation Project was not surprising among GTA fans. Take-Two has removed many mods and fan-made projects in the past, such as a mod called FiveM. These types of sanctions often leave a negative mark on the player community and negatively impact the company's attitude towards players in the eyes of fans.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two’s stance on in-game mods and community projects has occasionally led to conflicts with the player base. However, the companies continue to take such steps to protect their copyrights and legal responsibilities. However, whether such interventions restrict players’ free creativity is still a matter of debate.
