The Hakkari-Yüksekova Travel Time Was Shortened by 18 Minutes with the Yeniköprü Tunnel

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the Yeniköprü Tunnel on the Hakkari-Yüksekova Road has been opened to traffic. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the distance between Yeniköprü and Yüksekova has been shortened by 3 kilometers with the 965-kilometer tunnel and said, “The travel time between Yeniköprü and Yüksekova has decreased from 5 minutes to 40 minutes.”

Minister Uraloğlu, who announced that the Yeniköprü Tunnel on the Hakkari-Yüksekova Road has been opened to traffic, said, “With the opening of the tunnel, the traffic interrupted in winter conditions has been relieved, and a safer and more comfortable transportation opportunity has been provided. In addition, problems such as sharp curves on the existing road, landslide potential and stone falling from large slopes have been eliminated.”

Minister Uraloğlu stated that the Yeniköprü Tunnel was built in a length of 3 kilometers and said, “With the opening of the tunnel, the distance between Yeniköprü and Yüksekova was shortened by 965 kilometers, and the travel time decreased from 5 minutes to 40 minutes. The travel time was shortened by 22 minutes.”

Yeniköprü-Yüksekova Road is 16,2 Kilometers Long

Minister Uraloğlu stated that they designed the Yeniköprü-Yüksekova Road, the construction of which started in 2017, as a 16,2-kilometer-long, bituminous hot mixture coated divided road standard.
