Schools Say Hello to Mid-Term Breaks with Festivities

As the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year comes to an end, an “End-of-Term Activity Week” will be held between January 13-16 to provide students with both fun and educational time through artistic, cultural, sporting and scientific activities.

Upon the instructions of National Education Minister Yusuf Tekin, the “End of Term Activity Week” was implemented in schools last year in order to encourage students to participate in artistic, cultural, sports and scientific activities in the last week before the end of the term.

This year's events have been updated in line with the Turkey Century Education Model, which focuses on academic success as well as social, cultural, artistic and sports development with a holistic approach. In this context, a wide range of events will be offered to students during the activity week to support their multi-faceted development.

The events to be held within the scope of “End of Term Activity Week” on January 13-16 will be organized by a delegation consisting of teachers and students.

All of the activities were defined as “central activities” in the e-School Social Activity Module by the Ministry. Schools will select these activities from the “Social Activity Entry Screen/Central Activities” section and enter the information of the student/students who performed the activity into the module. Data entries made to the e-School Social Activity Module will also take their place in students’ social activity report cards.

The aim is for students to both have fun and learn with the plans that include many activities from knowledge contests to talent sharing hours, from oratory games to exhibitions, from social responsibility activities to documentary and animation shows.

Events can be organized in cooperation with students, teachers, parents and school administration.
The “End-of-Term Activity Week Implementation Guide”, updated in accordance with the Türkiye Century Education Model, included sample day-by-day plans.

Schools can change the days of the activities in the plan and determine the hours of the activities according to the school and environmental conditions. In addition to the sample activities, the activity week executive committee will be able to organize many games and activities in cooperation with students, teachers, parents and school administration.

The plan for the activity week is as follows:

Monday, January 13:
Talent Sharing Hour: Volunteer teachers and students will organize workshops, presentations or talks in areas they are interested in. The content will consist of school and extracurricular topics.

Richness of Our Language - Oratory Games "Debate": Students will be able to do debate, which is one of the games aimed at improving their oratory in the classroom.

Quiz: Each school will prepare questions and answers for their own quiz. The quizzes will be held at the same time in each classroom.

Tuesday, January 14:
Experience Sharing Talks: Students will be able to participate in events where expert speakers from various professional groups will take part.

Richness of Our Language-Oratory Games “Roles Discussing”: Students will discuss a topic in the “roles discussing” activity.

Play Time: A free time activity will be planned where various board games and drama games will be played. MEB’s “100 Face to Face Children’s Games” digital book will be available for basic education students.

Wednesday, January 15:
I Have an Idea Hour: Students will discuss their responsibilities by exchanging information on world and societal issues.

Richness of Our Language-Oratory Games “Oratory Competition”: A “oratory competition” will be held among students in each class.
