Precautions Against Risks with Buzlukbaşı Flood Protection Facility

Konya Metropolitan Municipality continues to undertake new projects to prevent flood risks and improve the quality of life.

Konya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Uğur İbrahim Altay said that they brought another important project to the city that will prevent possible flood disasters in important transportation and industrial areas of Konya.

Noting that they took an important step against flood risks originating from water basins on Meramşah Creek in Buzlukbaşı locality in Akademi Neighborhood of Selçuklu district, Mayor Altay said, “With our Buzlukbaşı Flood Protection Facility Project, which also includes a 450 thousand cubic meter capacity pond whose physical works we have completed, we have secured critical transportation and industrial zones against possible risks. We have eliminated possible flood risks in our Istanbul Road, Aliya İzzetbegoviç Street, Ankara Road, Kosova, Bosnia Hersek and Büyükkayacık neighborhoods; airport, Logistics Center and Organized Industrial Zones.”

Drawing attention to the importance of the project that will make a great contribution to the protection of infrastructure and the prevention of possible loss of life and property in the future, Mayor Altay said, “By combining the Ardıçlı, Buzlukbaşı and Kuşaklama Channel, which are the water collection basins of the Meramşah Stream, with a 70-meter-wide, 14-meter-high and 140-meter-long pond with a capacity of 450 thousand cubic meters, we have provided effective protection against possible flood disasters. I hope our project will be beneficial to our city.”
