Bursa's first music teacher, Fethiye Sanlıkol, presented a piano recital while telling her life story in the program organized by Osmangazi Municipality.
Fethiye Sanlıkol, the first music teacher of Bursa, met with the people of Osmangazi at the night organized under the name of “A Life Dedicated to Notes” at the Osmangazi Performance Center. The night, in which Fethiye Sanlıkol told her life story starting in Nicosia, Cyprus and extending to Istanbul and from there to Bursa, was attended by a large number of citizens of Osmangazi, along with Osmangazi Deputy Mayors Mutlu Esendemir and Sefa Yılmaz.
Fethiye Sanlıkol, who started her words by telling that she grew up in Nicosia, said, “We used to spend summers and weekends in Kyrenia. I had a wonderful childhood, we had a big fire in the 3rd month of starting primary school. We lost our cigarette factory, our houses, our lumber stores and our hotel, everything. I went through a big trauma after that fire. My father became the Mayor of Nicosia. Necati Özkan is the first Turkish leader to represent the Turks elected by the people of Kyrenia and Nicosia, Özkan, and his surname was given by Atatürk during his first visit to Ankara. I started playing piano when I was 8 years old. I continued the exams held by the Royal Academy with my teacher Jale Derviş.”
Fethiye Sanlıkol, who stated that they came to Bursa on January 25, 1975, said, “My husband was appointed as a physical therapy doctor to Çekirge Physical Therapy Hospital. We settled in Bursa. I gave lessons to the children of doctors and lawyers in our close circle. At that time, there was no music school in Bursa and Bursa was devoid of everything. Thus, my piano lessons began. I was invited by Bursa Uludağ University in 1983-1984. I gave education to students there. I started the Royal Academy exams in Bursa. Exams were held in my own house, exams were created there. Later, certificates came from England, for those who passed the exam, I showed the system to music teachers and ensured that they also trained students for the Royal Academy exams.”
At the end of the program, Osmangazi Deputy Mayor Sefa Yılmaz presented flowers to Fethiye Sanlıkol in memory of the night.
