Madison Railroad Strengthens Industrial Infrastructure in Indiana

Madison Railroad aims to support regional economic growth by significantly improving the rail infrastructure in the region with the completion of a new transit facility to serve industrial customers in Indiana. The 22,7-mile short track between the city of Madison and North Vernon improves transportation in the region by connecting with the CSX railroad company.

Transfer Facility and Investments

Madison Railroad’s $1,8 million transfer facility has transformed rail service in southern Indiana. The project was launched in August 2022 and is phased in to be completed in December 2024. The upgraded infrastructure includes 3.700 feet of new track, four switches and one mile of track surface. These investments are providing better service, increased capacity and improved efficiency for industrial customers.

Partnership with Road & Rail Services

Madison Railroad aims to increase efficiency by collaborating with partners such as Road & Rail Services, which streamlines freight car repair processes. Additionally, the consolidation of two dedicated 1.100-foot tracks makes repair operations more efficient.

Improved Infrastructure and Diverse Freight Transportation

With the improved infrastructure, Madison Railroad can transport a variety of materials, including coal byproducts, lumber, and plastics. It also provides daily transit services and connections to North American rail networks via CSX, allowing trade in the region to be conducted more quickly and efficiently. This development contributes to the growth of industrial activity in the region and accelerates regional economic development.
