The Ministry of National Education has launched an investigation into private schools that have increased student registration fees by “exorbitant prices” in violation of the legislation for the 2025-2026 academic year.
According to a statement from the Ministry of National Education, a meticulous study was conducted against private schools that demand fees above the increase limits, apply exorbitant prices to elementary classes (preschool, 1st, 5th and 9th grades) and force parents to receive services other than education.
The Ministry examined the data of the last two years in the Ministry of National Education Information Systems (MEBBİS) in order to protect the economic interests of the parents and to prevent their victimization.
In this context, it was determined that some private schools, including schools operating throughout Turkey, declared exorbitant fees. Taking into account the complaints received by the ministry, an investigation and review was launched into some private schools, while the Ministry of Trade also monitored institutions that made exorbitant fee increases.
The Ministry of National Education introduced a new regulation regarding the fees that private schools can declare for the education services they provide, with the amendment made to the Private Education Institutions Regulation on January 3. With the regulation made, the provision that “Exorbitant increases cannot be made in the tuition fees determined by schools for the beginning of grades.” was added to the legislation in question.
