Bornova City Talks started with the “Nazım Hikmet Commemoration” event on the 123rd anniversary of his birth.
The “Nazım Hikmet Commemoration” event organized by Bornova Municipality was held with intense participation at the Uğur Mumcu Cultural Center Multi-Purpose Hall. The video presentation of the event, which started with Nazım Hikmet’s poems in his own voice on his 123rd birth anniversary, was highly appreciated.
In the panel, Bilsen Başaran and Haluk Işık shared striking views on Nazım Hikmet's artistic personality and literary legacy. Başaran described Nazım Hikmet as "a giant of Turkish and World Literature", and Işık described him as "a man beyond his time". The event was presented by İbrahim Aktaş and moderated by Atilla Er.
Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki stated that Nazım Hikmet was not only a poet but also a symbol of the struggle for universal human rights and freedom. Eşki said, “As Bornova Municipality, we embrace his values and introduce them to new generations. We aim to bring together art, literature and social values with the events we will organize every month within the scope of City Talks. We are determined to make Bornova the capital of culture and art.”
At the end of the event, participants had the opportunity to ask questions to the panel speakers about the life and works of Nazım Hikmet.
