Amtrak Expands Service Between Los Angeles and San Diego

Amtrak has expanded its service by adding a new three-day roundtrip between Los Angeles and San Diego. The move, funded by a $27 million grant, restores pre-pandemic train frequencies and improves travel ease in the region.

13-Day Round Trip Will Be Offered

Amtrak will offer two additional daily roundtrips starting in March, with a third scheduled for November. This change will increase Amtrak Pacific Surfliner’s daily departures from 10 to 13. This change will provide more travel options, especially during peak travel times, and help passengers find tickets more easily.

Expansion Happens with Federal Grant

Amtrak’s funding for this expansion was provided by a $27 million grant from the Federal Railroad Administration. The goal of this initiative is to return train service frequencies to pre-pandemic levels, said Chris Orlando, Executive Vice President of the Lossan Rail Corridor Agency.

Increased Travel Options and Convenience

Sebastian Magnarelli at Old Town Transit Center said the expansion is welcomed and that the limited train options on weekends will be improved. The increased service will be of great benefit to leisure travelers and commuters in particular.

With this development, Amtrak strengthens transportation options among key cities in Southern California and continues its commitment to meeting regional transportation needs.
