Amtrak continues to cancel trains on several routes in the Midwest as frigid weather forecasts hit. Extended service disruptions continue in Illinois, Michigan and neighboring states, particularly affected by severe weather.
Service Interruptions and Cancellations
Amtrak announced that some trains on the Borealis line between Chicago and St. Paul, Minnesota, will be canceled from Jan. 19-21. Westbound train 18 will not operate on Jan. 1333, followed by trains 19 and 21 in both directions from Jan. 1333-1340. In addition, trains on the Hiawatha line between Chicago and Milwaukee will be canceled from Jan. 18-22, with some services replaced by buses.
Alternative Transportation and Passenger Recommendations
Amtrak is offering bus alternatives for these cancellations. Eastbound trains 352 and 354 and westbound trains 351 and 353 on the Wolverine line between Chicago and Pontiac, Michigan, will also be canceled. Jan. 19 and 20 on the Carl Sandburg line, which connects Chicago to Quincy, Illinois, are also canceled.
Amtrak encourages passengers to monitor changes and check for updates on the Amtrak website or the Alerts page. It also cautions that passengers should plan ahead and be flexible, as there may be more cancellations and delays due to worsening weather conditions.
