Following the meeting, the delegation visited Karasu Port. Meeting with Port Director Gökçen Erdem, SATSO President A. Akgün Altuğ and Economy-Based NGO Presidents evaluated the operation of the port, the status of RO-RO trips to Russia and Romania, ongoing expansion and growth investments in the port, and the need for a railway connection.
Port's Need for Railway
SATSO Board of Directors Chairman A. Akgün Altuğ, who made a statement about the program, said; “We inspected our Karasu Port this month with our economy-based NGO chairmen. We met with Port Director Gökçen Erdem. In the past months, even with the information that the Karasu Railway project would be revived, the activity in our port increased. I would like to thank especially the Deputy Chairman of the AK Party Ali İhsan Yavuz, our Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Alemdar and all our deputies who made efforts to bring the railway project back to the agenda and solve it. A very important and serious step was taken for the future of our city.
A railway project that will connect to the port will provide great gains for our city in terms of logistics, production and export. Our wish and expectation is that the work in this direction will accelerate and reach a certain point. Our Karasu Port, which is the most important gate of our province opening to the north and Europe, has a very serious potential. The capacity of our port is also increasing every day. We have also examined the expansion area. We estimate that it will expand even more with the completion of the Railway Project. New investments for storage continue around our port. It contributes greatly to the region and our province. We believe that it will provide a service much higher than its potential with the railway connection.
“Our Sakarya is a very lucky city in terms of consultation and cooperation between institutions. We see an example of this in the meetings we hold with our economy-based NGOs. I would also like to express my gratitude to all the chairmen who contributed to our meeting,” he said.
