MEMS Neuristor: The Future of Neuromorphic Processing Technology

With the developing technology, the ability of electronic devices to process information in a manner similar to the human brain has gained great importance. In this context, METU Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Barış Bayram and research assistant Berre Vize attract attention with their “MEMS Neuristor” project. This innovative technology significantly increases the performance of electronic devices by providing high energy efficiency.

Neuromorphic Processors and Energy Efficiency

MEMS neuristor can be defined as a neuromorphic processor component. This technology, which imitates the energy efficiency of the human brain, can greatly reduce the energy consumption of the electronic devices we use in our daily lives. Prof. Dr. Bayram emphasizes that the human brain consumes only 25 watts of energy, but today's most advanced processors consume up to 25 megawatts of energy to perform these operations. This situation once again reveals the importance of energy saving.
