Trabzon Southern Ring Road Will Relieve National and International Traffic

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu and General Director of Highways Ahmet Gülşen inspected the Kanuni Boulevard Değirmendere Connection Road and Değirmendere Tunnels, which are currently under construction in Trabzon, and received information from the authorities about the latest status of the project.

“We have completed the excavation and support works in the Değirmendere Tunnel”

Minister Uraloğlu stated that they have completed the excavation and support works in both tubes of the Değirmendere Tunnel, which is designed as a 3-meter double tube with 3 lanes in both directions, providing a connection between the Black Sea Coastal Road and Maçka Road, and said, “We have completed the final concrete coating manufacturing in the right tube. We have achieved 970 percent completion by manufacturing 2 meters of final concrete coating in the left tube. We have also started manufacturing the cut-and-cover structures at the tunnel entrance that will provide the connection to Kaymaklı Neighborhood. We have also completed the Değirmendere Tunnel Entrance Overpass Bridge that will connect the Kanuni Boulevard Connection Road to the state road in the Trabzon-Maçka direction.”

Uraloğlu, who stated that they continue road construction work in the section that will temporarily connect the vehicle traffic coming from the Değirmendere Tunnel and Kanuni Boulevard to the Değirmendere Junction, said, “We have also completed our tenders for the displacement of the natural gas, electricity and drinking water sewer lines located at the Değirmendere Junction. As of December, we will have started and completed the displacement work in the said junction area.”

“We will provide relief for traffic in the Değirmendere area”

Uraloğlu stated that they continue the filling and fortification works in the coastal road port junction area and said, “When the Değirmendere tunnel line is completed, we will have ensured the connection of the current project to the coastal road and the relief of traffic in the Değirmendere location. In addition, with the branch to be connected to the Değirmendere junction, we will have ensured the integration of the project to the Kanuni Boulevard project and we will have eased the access of Çukurçayır Neighborhood to the coastal road.”

“We aim to complete the 2-kilometer section and open it to traffic in 2025.”

Emphasizing that the works on Kanuni Boulevard are directly related to the solution of the density experienced in the urban traffic of Trabzon, Uraloğlu said the following: “We completed the 19,3-kilometer section with 3 lanes inbound and 3 lanes inbound with bituminous hot mixture pavement road standards and opened it to traffic. We have completed the most important section serving the urban traffic on this occasion. We continue our works on the 2-kilometer section starting from the Boztepe junction and ending at the Çukurçayır junction. We have completed the excavation and final concrete coating works in the Çukurçayır-1 Tunnel. We are continuing the superstructure works of the tunnel. We aim to complete this 2-kilometer section and open it to traffic in 2025, hopefully.”

“National and international traffic will be relieved with the Southern Ring Road”

Minister Uraloğlu, who also provided information about the Southern Ring Road, one of the most important highway projects under construction in Trabzon, said, “Our Southern Ring Road, which we built in the standard of a 2-meter-wide, 3-way and 3-way, 6-lane, integral hot mixed coated divided road, will be 43,8 kilometers in length. Thanks to our road that will start from Akçaabat Mersin, continue in the south of the city in Ortahisar and Yomra districts and connect to the Black Sea Coastal Road again in Arsin district, transit traffic will be separated from the city. Thus, national and international traffic will be relieved both in the city and in the city transition. The 16,5-kilometer-long 1st Section, currently under construction, leaves Mersin, passes from the south of the existing coastal road and ends at the Sera Lake junction. It is being built in a way that will connect from the Sera Lake junction to the Starry Clover junction of the Black Sea Coastal Road and Kanuni Boulevard. While the works continue, we are also continuing our expropriation procedures. "With the project, the heavy transit traffic in the city and especially the Sarp Border Gate will be separated from each other in the section between Akçaabat and Arsin on the Black Sea Coastal Road. By establishing fast and uninterrupted transportation of national and international traffic via the ring road, we will provide maximum traffic accessibility in all directions in the city by relieving the density in the coastal area," he said.
