Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is renovating the Lake and Island casinos in Kültürpark, which have an important place in the city's memory, in a way that is true to the original. Lake Casino will be put into service as a museum and cafeteria together with the 94th Izmir International Fair to be held next year. Ada Casino will meet the people of Izmir as a restaurant in 2026.
The Izmir Metropolitan Municipality continues to protect Izmir's urban memory. The Ada and Göl casinos in Kültürpark, one of the most important venues in the fair, culture and art history of Izmir and Turkey since the 1930s, are being renovated in accordance with the original. Significant progress has been made in the reconstruction works in line with the project, which was designed within the scope of the improvement works of the city's symbol Kültürpark and was approved by the Izmir Number 1 Cultural Heritage Protection Regional Board. The teams have completed most of the rough construction in the reconstruction process of the demolished building in Göl Casino. In Ada Casino, the demolition process of the parts that have completed their economic life outside of the protected areas of the building has been completed.
Lake Casino will be opened in 2025, and Island Casino will be opened in 2026
The Göl Gazinosu, which is planned to serve as a museum and cafeteria, is planned to open at the 2025th İzmir International Fair to be held in 94, while the Ada Gazinosu, which is targeted to open in 2026, will serve as a restaurant. The two structures, which have an important place in the city's memory, will meet the people of İzmir in a way befitting their historical identity and character.
Lake Casino will become a museum and cafeteria
Stating that they are aware of the value of Ada and Göl Casinos, which have an important place in the city's memory, for İzmir, İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Construction Works Department Historical Buildings Branch Manager Dilara Yöndem Kayan said, “Ada and Göl Casinos were one of the areas frequently used by citizens as entertainment venues in the past. It was planned to be used as a social meeting area after the renovation works. For this purpose, we will use Göl Casino as a museum and cafeteria.”
The level of 46 percent has been reached
Kayan, who said that they rebuilt Göl Gazinosu in accordance with the original due to static problems, said, “We are building it in accordance with its original form. We have completed the rough construction in the reconstruction process, which we have reached 46 percent at the moment. We aim to complete the construction of Göl Gazinosu in time for the opening of the İzmir International Fair to be held in 2025 and to introduce it to the people of İzmir. Our President Cemil Tugay is showing care and following up this project meticulously. We, as the Historical Buildings Branch Directorate of the Department of Construction Affairs, are making every effort to complete the work without any problems.”
It will be a decent restaurant
Providing information about Ada Gazinosu, Kayan said, “Ada Gazinosu is a very valuable structure for Kültürpark, just like Göl Gazinosu. The mass form of the structure was preserved in accordance with its original, and it was cleared of unqualified period additions. After the plaster rasping we carried out within the scope of the applications, we determined that the reinforced concrete elements had lost their function. The restoration project had to be prepared again as a reconstruction project. In this direction, we are managing the project process and the construction site process together. We will restore the structure by preserving its original form with the reconstruction project.” Kayan conveyed that Ada Gazinosu, which is planned to be put into service in 2026, will serve as a decent restaurant after the kitchen, open and closed activity areas, administrative office and terrace arrangements.
