Akkuyu NPP 4th Unit Reactor Shaft Installation Completed

At the construction site of the reactor building of the 4th power unit of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), the reactor dry protection and support beam, which are the main elements of the shaft structure, were placed in the design position.

The reactor shaft equipment was installed using a heavy crawler crane. The installation took approximately 8 hours. The reactor dry protection ensures reliable operation of the nuclear power plant in many situations, including an earthquake measuring 64 on the MSK-9 scale.

The support beam designed to fix the reactor vessel in the concrete shaft also serves to protect the reactor from external influences.

“The installation of the support beam and the reactor dry protection are among the most important events of 4 in the construction of the 2024th power unit of the Akkuyu NPP. The installation of such large-scale structures is a complex and extremely responsible type of installation, requiring the highest qualifications of personnel and detailed calculations. Thanks to the experience of similar work at previous power units, the specialists who installed this equipment completed this installation on time. Our intensive work on the construction of the reactor shaft of the 4th power unit of the Akkuyu NPP continues,” said Sergei Butckikh, General Director of the Akkuyu NPP.

Other works related to the construction of the reactor shaft of the 4th power unit are also being carried out without interruption. In this context, consolidation, concreting of voids and installation of measurement channels are being completed.
