Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality was crowned with the “Golden Flag” at the 2024 European Sports Cities Awards. At the ceremony held in Belgium, Kayseri's achievements and efforts in the field of sports were appreciated internationally.
Kayseri was chosen as the best city among the European Sports Cities of 2024 and won the "Golden Flag" award. Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality received the prestigious award given by the Federation of European Capitals and Cities of Sports (ACES Europe) at a ceremony held at the European Parliament building in Brussels, Belgium.
Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General, Spor A.Ş. Board Chairman Ufuk Sekmen received his award from ACES Europe President Gian Francesco Lupatelli.
Lupatelli stated that it was an honor to declare Kayseri as the best sports city in Europe for 2024 and said, “We congratulate Kayseri for this well-deserved award, which reflects the extraordinary effort and dedication your city has shown throughout the year.”

Lupatelli also emphasized the value Kayseri gives to sports and said, “I would like to thank Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç for the support he provided from the facilities and the activities carried out in these facilities.”
Lupatelli also touched on the quality of Kayseri’s sports facilities and said, “The capacities, cleanliness, accessibility and budget-friendliness of the facilities made us very happy. Kayseri organizes events that appeal to all age groups in many branches of sports. This contributes greatly to the spread of the city’s sports culture to a wide base.”
Kayseri Sports Inc. Board Chairman Ufuk Sekmen also conveyed the greetings of Chairman Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç and celebrated this great success of Kayseri with the words, “We are proud to add another golden page to the history of our ancient city Kayseri.” Sekmen drew attention to the fact that the city has shown great development with its modern sports facilities, national and international sports events, national athletes and sports schools.
Ufuk Sekmen thanked Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, who played a major role in Kayseri winning this award, and stated that the city's determined rise in sports will continue, saying, "Kayseri will continue to grow, develop and set an example in Europe with sports. This award is a reflection of not only Kayseri's but also Turkey's power in the international arena."
“We are receiving this award on behalf of our President Dr. Memduh Büyükkılıç, the friend of sports and athletes, and we dedicate it to all the people of Kayseri,” said Sekmen, adding that they will carry the city’s success in sports even further.
While Kayseri attracted attention in Europe with its sports activities throughout 2024, this award went down in history in golden letters as an indication that the city's sports vision and success has been registered on the international platform.
