Strong and Resilient Cities Message
Erdoğan stated that the rapid construction activities carried out after the earthquake were a symbol of the resistance shown by the nation in healing its wounds and acting together. The President, who said, “We stood tall by our nation in the disaster of the century. We quickly started the construction of the century,” said, “If we want to live in peace in Anatolia forever, we have to be strong in every field. Strong and durable cities are an inseparable part of this,” and drew attention to the importance of Turkey being prepared and resilient against all kinds of disasters in the future.
Transportation Projects and Innovations
President Erdoğan also mentioned transportation projects in the region and announced that the construction of the Gaziantep-Osmaniye-Incirlik-Adana-Mersin high-speed train project was ongoing. He stated that when completed, this project would reduce transportation between Gaziantep and Mersin to 2 hours and 15 minutes, and that such projects were of great importance in terms of regional development and integration.
Criticism of Opposition Municipalities
Erdoğan also criticized the municipalities governed by opposition parties in his speech. He said, “They cannot operate bus services. The Gulf of Izmir has been abandoned to its fate. They find money for everything, and when it comes to SGK debts, they try to find excuses from many sources,” and criticized the shortcomings experienced in the administration of opposition municipalities and the reflection of this situation on the citizens. He made these criticisms to emphasize the effectiveness of the policies implemented by the government and the importance of the priorities determined by the government.

The new housing provided to earthquake victims, transportation projects in the region and the government’s determined stance in this process once again prove Turkey’s strength in social solidarity and rapid response in the face of a major disaster.
