Speaking at the Symposium on the Effects of Migration organized under the leadership of BAL-GÖÇ and YTB, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mehmet Aydın Saldız said, “Migration stories, which are part of the bridge of brotherhood extending from the Balkans to Anatolia, are not just a displacement, but an epic in which identity, solidarity and human dignity are rewritten.”
The Balkan Migrants Culture and Solidarity Association (BAL-GÖÇ) and the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB) organized the 'Impacts of Migration Symposium' on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the forced migration from Bulgaria. The event, which took place at Uludağ University Faculty of Arts and Sciences, was attended by Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mehmet Aydın Saldız, Deputy Governor Salih Altun, BAL-GÖÇ General President Prof. Dr. Emin Balkan, BALKANTÜRKSİAD President Fatih Şakır, Bursa Uludağ University President Prof. Dr. Ferudun Yılmaz and citizens.
“The power of our stories unites us”
Speaking at the opening of the symposium, Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Mehmet Aydın Saldız said that he was honored to attend the symposium held on the 35th anniversary of the forced migration from Bulgaria. Stating that they transformed the traces of the past into lessons for today with the symposium, Saldız said, “The migration stories, which are part of the bridge of brotherhood extending from the Balkans to Anatolia, are not only a displacement, but also an epic in which identity, solidarity and human dignity are rewritten. Our presence here is very valuable in terms of giving a strong message of solidarity. We are a nation that has known how to overcome difficulties and stand up together throughout our history. We also know that the power hidden in our stories unites us even more.”
After the opening speeches, the symposium continued with various sessions.
