Alstom will supply SNCF Voyageurs with 35 new RER NG trains for Île-de-France Mobilités on the RER E line. The order is worth around €520 million and is fully financed by Île-de-France Mobilités. The order, which is part of a framework agreement signed between SNCF Voyageurs and Alstom in 2017, follows on from the 71 trains already included in the RER NG project, with an additional 2023 trains to be ordered in 60. A total of 130 RER NG trains have been ordered to date: 36 for the RER E and 166 for the RER D.
Frédéric Wiscart, President of Alstom France, said that the trust in this project is gratifying, as this new generation train has been specifically designed for the Île-de-France region and is being manufactured at nine Alstom sites in France. The first RER NG trains entered service on the RER E line in November 2023 and are planned to be deployed on the RER D line by the end of 2024.
RER NG Train Features:
- Capacity and Accessibility: Passenger flow is facilitated thanks to the open “boa” architecture and wide doors; areas at the end of each carriage offer access for wheelchair passengers.
- Comfort: The train has features such as air conditioning, LED lighting, USB ports and passenger information screens.
- Reliability and Efficiency: With eight engine bogies, better acceleration and deceleration performance is achieved than previous generation trains.
- Technical SpecificationsThe trains have a maximum speed of 140 km/h, a length of 112 m and a capacity of 1.563 passengers. Each train set has more than 250 USB ports, 45 information screens and 48 security cameras.
Alstom’s Valenciennes-Petite Forêt and Crespin sites in Hauts-de-France are responsible for the design and assembly of the trains. Nine of Alstom’s 16 French sites are contributing to the project, as are component manufacturing facilities and other production sites.
