Algeria has announced plans to develop an ambitious rail network with the aim of connecting its northern and southern regions. 2.400 kilometers of railway network, aims to strengthen economic and social ties by modernizing the country's transportation infrastructure.
Project Details and Progress
The National Railway Investment Study and Monitoring Agency stated that serious progress has been made in this giant project. Technical studies have been completed for a total of 1.084 kilometers of the project, and work on the remaining section is continuing rapidly.
The two main railway lines to be included in the project include:
- North-South Main Line:
- Tamanrasset with the capital Algiers will lie between.
- It will provide uninterrupted connection from the Mediterranean coast to the country's southern borders.
- Line Covering 10 Provinces:
- It will be 2.406 kilometers long.
- It aims to promote inter-regional trade, transportation and development.

This project is in line with Algeria’s broader development strategies. Abdul Qadir Mazar, the agency’s chief information officer, said the following about the project:
“We aim to modernize and expand Algeria's railway system to meet national needs.”
