Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) aims to make Istanbul an accessible city for everyone with its social municipality approach that has been developing since 2019. The IMM Accessibility Coordination, which includes architects and engineers with visual, hearing and orthopedic disabilities working at IMM, carries out work that aims to make the city more equal and accessible for everyone.
ACCESSIBILITY CHECKS ARE CARRIED OUT IN PROJECTS
The Accessibility Coordination Office carries out controls for the implementation of accessibility legislation in the project processes of technical works, parks, gardens and green areas, and road construction works carried out within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. It continues its work to ensure the accessibility of newly constructed public transportation vehicles, stops, stations, and ferry piers; and to make accessibility arrangements for sports, culture and art centers, touristic and social facilities.
64 THOUSAND DISABLED PEOPLE ARE REACHED ANNUALLY
On the other hand, the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disabled Department provides services for individuals with special needs and their families with 23 ÖZGEMs, 6 Short Break Centers, 7 Contact Offices and 2 Camps. Information, guidance, awareness, education, transportation, employment support, personal development and vocational courses, disabled camps, psychosocial support, medical equipment support and rehabilitation opportunities are provided. In 2024, nearly 64 thousand Istanbulites benefited from IMM disabled services.
VOCATIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITY IN OZGEMs
Special Needs Individuals Education Centers (ÖZGEM), which have been providing service in Istanbul since 2019, enable the disabled to be in life as self-confident and independent individuals. In ÖZGEMs affiliated with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, various opportunities are offered to individuals of different ages and disability groups with a personalized education service approach.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN EMPLOYMENT
In the centers, the psycho-social development of individuals with special needs is supported with appropriate education and rehabilitation practices. In addition, they are supported to find employment by offering educational opportunities in many areas. Thus, equal opportunities in education and employment are aimed for individuals with special needs.
SHORT BREAK SERVICE
A short break service is offered to individuals with special needs living in Istanbul between the ages of 4-14 and 15-35, which includes workshops in the fields of art, music, sports, etc. The short break service aims to provide psychosocial rehabilitation to individuals with special needs by providing half-day care and to support the families of individuals with special needs in taking time for themselves in their daily lives.
CASH SUPPORT FOR MOTHERS OF DISABLED CHILDREN
Individuals with special needs and their caregivers face obstacles in accessing socioeconomic and cultural resources. With the 'Cash Support for Mothers with Disabled Children' project, IMM aims to support women with disabled children in the face of social and economic difficulties.
PAYMENTS IN JANUARY
The cash support, which will be announced on December 3, 2024, will begin to be deposited into the accounts of Istanbulites as of January. 10 TL will be deposited to 5 people, and no documents will be requested from citizens.
