European High Performance Computing Partnership Initiative: AI Factories and Their Future
Established in Europe with the aim of developing supercomputing technologies and applications European High Performance Computing Partnership Initiative (Euro HPC), is preparing to take groundbreaking steps in the field of artificial intelligence. This Luxembourg-based initiative aims to increase innovation by creating artificial intelligence factories across Europe. In this context, 7 different consortia have been determined and the countries where these factories will be located have been announced.
Locations of Artificial Intelligence Factories
Euro HPC, AI factories Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain and Sweden He stated that they will be established in countries such as. These factories will provide the infrastructure required to train advanced AI models and develop AI solutions. Total value of the investment 1,5 billion euros and half of this amount will be financed by the EU's Digital Europe and Horizon Europe programmes.
The Purposes of Artificial Intelligence Factories
The main purpose of these AI factories is to increase Europe’s capacity in the field of AI and to increase its competitiveness at an international level. The factories will host innovative projects by providing academic and industrial collaborations. These projects will provide significant developments in areas such as data analytics, machine learning and AI applications.
Factory Hosts and Features
Institutions that will host AI factories include:
- Spain: Barcelona Supercomputer Center “BSC AIF”
- Italy: Bologna Tecnopolo “IT4LIA”
- Finlandiya: Kajaani CSC “LUMI AIF”
- Luxembourg: LuxProvide “Meluxina-AI”
- Sweden: Linköping University “MIMER”
- Germany: University of Stuttgart “HammerHAI”
- Yunanistan: Athens GRNET “Pharos”
These institutions are important centers covering the 15 EU countries that are members of Euro HPC and 2 participating countries. Each AI factory stands out with its unique features and aims to increase Europe’s potential in this field.
Investment and Financing Strategies
A large part of the investment will be made based on the digital strategies determined by the European Union. At this point, the opportunities and projects provided by artificial intelligence factories will make great contributions to Europe's digital transformation process. In addition, the training and empowerment of human resources required for the development of artificial intelligence technologies in Europe will be the responsibility of these factories.
The Impact of Artificial Intelligence Factories and Future Vision
AI factories will not only increase Europe’s technological capacity, but will also strengthen international competitiveness. These factories will ensure that Europe is a leader in research and technology and will enable the development of innovative solutions. In addition, these factories, which will be deployed between 2025 and 2026, aim to develop strategies that will shape Europe’s digital economy in the long term.
Turkey's Role and Contributions
Turkey joined the Euro HPC Joint Venture in 2019. This participation demonstrates Turkey’s interest and desire to contribute to artificial intelligence and supercomputing technologies in Europe. Turkey’s participation in the BSC AIF in Barcelona ensures that our country is involved in collaborations and projects in this field. Thus, Turkey has become a country that actively contributes to the European AI ecosystem.
As a result
The AI factories of the European High-Performance Computing Partnership Initiative stand out as an important step in Europe’s technological development. The establishment of these factories aims to increase Europe’s international competitiveness in the field of AI. In addition, these projects will strengthen Europe’s AI ecosystem and enable the development of innovative solutions.
