Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the amount of cargo handled at ports in November increased by 13,7 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching 43 million 453 thousand 419 tons. Minister Uraloğlu stated that the number of containers handled increased by 16,1 percent, reaching 1 million 126 thousand 736 TEU, and said, “Among the types of cargo transported in November, the highest increase compared to the previous month was crude oil, with 5 million 586 thousand 424 tons.”
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the maritime statistics for the January-November period of 2024. Stating that they are working with determination to get a larger share of maritime trade, Minister Uraloğlu said, “The amount of cargo handled in ports in November this year increased by 13,7 percent compared to last year, reaching 43 million 453 thousand 419 tons. The amount of cargo handled in 11 months was 485 million 385 thousand 610 tons.”
International Freight Transportation Increased by 11,9 Percent
Noting that the amount of cargo going from Turkish ports to foreign ports in November decreased by 2023 percent compared to the same month of 0,8, reaching 11 million 281 thousand 574 tons, Uraloğlu said, “While the amount of cargo coming to our ports from foreign ports increased by 20,1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 21 million 188 thousand 520 tons, international cargo transportation increased by 11,9 percent, reaching 32 million 740 thousand 94 tons.”
Aliağa Regional Port Authority at the Summit
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the highest cargo handling among regional port authorities in November was carried out in the port facilities within the administrative borders of Aliağa Regional Port Authority with 7 million 453 thousand 572 tons of cargo, and said, “Aliağa was followed by Kocaeli Regional Port Authority with 6 million 686 thousand 312 tons and İskenderun Regional Port Authority with 5 million 403 thousand 280 tons.”
Uraloğlu reported that in November, transit cargo transportation by sea at the ports was 5 million 956 thousand 963 tons, while the amount of cargo carried by cabotage was 5 million 26 thousand 362 tons.
The Biggest Increase in Crude Oil
Uraloğlu said that among the types of cargo carried in November, the one that showed the highest increase compared to the previous month was crude oil, and made the following statements:
“5 million 586 thousand 424 tons of crude oil were handled through the ports. In addition, Portland cement was the most carried cargo type from our ports to abroad with 861 thousand 781 tons. This cargo type was followed by clinker and feldspar. Crude oil was the most carried cargo on ships coming to our ports from abroad. This was followed by unbriquetted coal and scrap iron, respectively.”
Most Freight Came From Russia
Uraloğlu noted that the largest amount of cargo shipped from ports to go abroad by sea in November was to Italy, followed by shipments to the United States and Spain. Uraloğlu stated that the largest amount of cargo arriving at Turkish ports by sea was shipments from Russia.
7,5 Percent of International Freight is Turkish Bayraklı Ships Carried
Minister Uraloğlu noted that 32 percent of the 470 million 94 thousand 7,5 tons of foreign cargo handled in ports in November was carried by Turkish-flagged ships, and said, “The amount of cargo carried abroad by Turkish-flagged ships increased by 2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with 436 million 123 thousand 0,1 tons. The amount of cargo carried from abroad by foreign-flagged ships increased by 30 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, with 33 million 971 thousand 13 tons.”
The amount of containers handled increased by 16,1
Uraloğlu, who pointed out that the amount of containers handled at ports in November increased by 16,1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 1 million 126 thousand 736 TEU, underlined that the amount of containers handled at ports in the first 11 months of the year increased by 8,4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 12 million 422 thousand 38 TEU. Uraloğlu also noted that 12,5 percent of container transportation abroad was carried out by Turkish-flagged vessels.
