In Turkey, which is under water stress, 33 percent of water is lost in drinking water supply and distribution systems. If no measures are taken, the country is expected to experience a water shortage by 2030.
Making statements on the occasion of December 4 Water Loss Day, Masdaf General Manager Erhan Özdemir drew attention to water losses in drinking water supply and distribution systems and shared the measures that should be taken by municipalities.
Due to climate change, rapid population growth, industrialization and mistakes in water management, water resources around the world are rapidly depleting. The situation is no different in Turkey, where the usable annual amount of water per capita is 1.313 m3. If measures are not taken to protect and use water resources efficiently, a water shortage is expected in the country as of 2030.
Making statements on the occasion of December 4 Water Loss Day, Masdaf General Manager Erhan Özdemir drew attention to water losses in drinking water supply and distribution systems and shared the measures that should be taken by municipalities:
“In Turkey, 33 percent of water is lost in drinking water supply and distribution systems before reaching homes. The reasons for losses in water distribution networks, which are the responsibility of municipalities, can be listed as; old and poorly maintained infrastructure, namely pipes and pipe connections, incorrect pump selection and systems that have reached the end of their lifespan. In order to combat this situation, municipalities need to detect water losses in drinking water supply and distribution systems, continuously measure pressure at critical points, install pressure regulating valves and connection lines where necessary, and renew old pipes and pipe connections and pump systems with a service life of more than 10 years.
It is aimed to reduce water losses to 2033 percent by 25
The Regulation on Control of Water Losses in Drinking Water Supply and Distribution Systems of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry also encourages municipalities to combat water losses. Accordingly, municipalities are expected to reduce drinking water losses by 2028 percent by 30 and 2033 percent by 25 through the measures they will take.
“As Masdaf, we prevent water losses and support the 2028 and 2033 targets of municipalities with our smart pump technologies that pressurize the water of drinking water supply and distribution systems in a safe and highly efficient way.”
