Toshiba’s E500 locomotive has taken on a significant role in Taiwan’s railway system, starting operations on a 420-kilometer narrow-gauge line. Toshiba signed the contract for the E500 locomotives in 2019, and deliveries began in March this year. The E500 locomotive uses a 3,9 MW three-phase asynchronous motor to deliver high performance while keeping energy consumption low. In addition, the bogies provided by Australia-based UGL Rail highlight the international collaboration in the development of the E500.
This locomotive operates on narrow gauge tracks with a width of 1067 mm, providing an ideal solution for Taiwan’s railway network. With a top speed of 500 km/h, the E130 provides fast and uninterrupted travel over long distances.
