Waste Battery Collection Campaign Continues in Izmir!

The Waste Battery Collection Campaign, organized for the 5th time this year by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality within the scope of June 27 World Environment Day events, continues. Waste batteries will be collected at the stand set up in front of Kültürpark Celal Atik Sports Hall until June 5.

The Waste Batteries Collection Campaign, organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality every year during the Environment Week, started at the beginning of the week. Waste batteries from municipalities, schools, muhtars' offices and citizens will be received from the stands established between Kültürpark Celal Atik Sports Hall and Hall No. 2 until June 5.

This campaign aims to include harmful chemical substances such as mercury, lead and cadmium in waste batteries that have completed their useful life or become unusable, into the recycling chain without polluting the environment.

“A very nice campaign”

Güzelbahçe Private Oğuzhan Özkaya Secondary School students collected 76 kilograms of waste batteries as part of the campaign. Social Studies Teacher Emine Gülada, who brought the batteries to deliver, said, “We are very excited on behalf of our school and our students. It was very exciting for us to take part in such a campaign. We participated in the campaign to raise environmental awareness among our students. "We support the environmental projects of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality," he said.

Social Studies Teacher Ali Görgü stated that they explained the damage caused by waste batteries to the nature using the drama method and that the children were very impressed and said, “I find the activities of Izmir Metropolitan Municipality on environmental protection very correct. "I believe that municipalities are primarily responsible for protecting the environment and I think such activities should increase more," he said.

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality collects waste batteries in accordance with the Regulation on the Control of Waste Batteries and Accumulators, in cooperation with the Portable Battery Manufacturers and Importers Association (TAP) and district municipalities, and ensures their recycling or final disposal.
