President and AK Party Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at the holiday program organized via videoconference with his party's 81 provincial organizations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.
President Erdoğan underlined that they duly fulfilled the duty given to him and the People's Alliance to govern Turkey, with record voting rates in the 14-28 May elections, and said:
“Here, I find it useful to remind you of this fact once again. While our country is surrounded by a ring of fire, terrorists are nested beyond our borders, and the world, from Europe to America, is passing through a great uncertainty, we do not have a single moment to waste on unnecessary discussions. We believe that Turkey should quickly leave behind the tense atmosphere caused by the elections and focus on the future with all its capacity.
We must prevent politics, which is a race to serve the country and the nation, from being perceived as an ongoing 'war of attrition' between different parties. For this reason, it is a rule for the opposition to quickly abandon the habit of doing politics with unfair accusations, slanders and accusatory words that do not fit into political courtesy. It is high time for a different style, a constructive, positive and unifying attitude to prevail on the opposition side, instead of a destructive and provocative language. We hope that Eid al-Adha will strengthen such a climate. “I expect you to carry out your political activities with this understanding.”
