In his statement on January 25, 2024, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that the restoration process of the Historical Şile Lighthouse was completed and opened to tourism.
In his statement, Uraloğlu reminded that Şile Lighthouse was built in 1859 and is the largest lighthouse in Turkey. Pointing out that the lighthouse was built to guide ships entering the Bosphorus from the Black Sea during the Crimean War, Uraloğlu said, “Şile Lighthouse is an important symbol of our country's maritime history. With the restoration work, we ensured that the lighthouse was restored to its original state. "Thus, Şile Lighthouse has become an important value both historically and touristically," he said.
Within the scope of the restoration works, the exterior, interior and technical equipment of Şile Lighthouse were renewed. The lighting system of the lighthouse was also modernized.
Uraloğlu stated that by opening the Şile Lighthouse to tourism, the historical and cultural richness of the region will reach more visitors.
Şile Lighthouse is located in the Şile district of Istanbul, on the Black Sea coast. The height of the lighthouse is 19 meters and the floor area is 140 square meters. Şile Lighthouse can be seen from a distance of approximately 35 miles at night.
