Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın, when asked at the council meeting whether he was working on building a rail system in the Umuttepe region, said that they were working on the funicular system.

When CHP council member Orhan Tanış asked whether there was any work on a rail system in the Kocaeli University region, Büyükakın explained the work done.

The statement of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın is an important step towards ensuring transportation of the Umuttepe region by rail system. It is understood that traditional rail systems such as metro and tram are not suitable due to the slope of the region. In this case, the funicular system stands out as the most suitable solution to provide transportation in the region.
