The Bosphorus hosted the Bosphorus Cup Sailing Races this weekend. The races, organized with the support of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), in which a thousand sailors competed for first place in teams, witnessed colorful scenes on the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn.

The 22nd Bosphorus Cup Sailing Races started with the trial race on September 21. After the athletes had the opportunity to experience the wind, waves and current of the Bosphorus, they competed on the Caddebostan, Prince Islands and Kalamış route on the first day. The second day race was held on the stage that gave the organization its name. The struggle of the athletes sailing between two continents in the unique view of the Bosphorus brought joy to the audience and exciting moments to the competitors. Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organized the Bosphorus race of sailboats Ekrem İmamoğlu and her husband Dr. Dilek Kaya watched it with İmamoğlu. The organization ended with the races held off the coast of Yenikapı on Sunday.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality also supported the organization in various areas under the coordination of the Youth and Sports Directorate. IMM, which provided food supplies for the race committee throughout the event period, allocated ambulances and assigned medical personnel, said that the boats participating in the event were in Moda, Üsküdar, Kadıköy and allowed them to dock at Bostancı piers. IMM, which allocated 4 zodiacs for the race management, allocated outdoor advertising areas free of charge for the promotion of the event.

Special trophy for first place

At the end of the three-day races, Barış Koncagül and his team came first with the boat 'Fenerbahçe 1'. The second place in the general classification of the tournament was won by the 'Setur Marinas Cheese' team under the management of Levent Peynirci, and the third place was won by Zeynep-Ayşe Atabay and her team with the sailboat named 'Orient Express'. The first-place crew won the right to own the special rotating trophy designed by world-famous designer Can Yalman for a year. At the end of the race, IBB Youth and Sports Director İlker Öztürk and Bosphorus Cup founder Orhan Gorbon gave their awards to the 'Fenerbahçe 1' team that won the cup and the other teams that ranked.

Istanbulites also had the opportunity to watch the Bosphorus stage of the race from Beşiktaş, Ortaköy, Arnavutköy Akıntıburnu, Anadolu Hisari, Aşiyan, Ulus, Etiler Hisarüstü, Üsküdar, Çengelköy and Kandilli.

The Bosphorus Cup found its owner in the Golden Horn

Bosphorus Cup Sailing Races witnessed yet another excitement this year, and a different event was held for the first time during the organization this year. Bosphorus Cup Optimist Sailing Races were held at the Haliç Water Sports Center, which was brought to Istanbul, water sports clubs and athletes by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. At the end of the race, where 5 clubs competed with 60 athletes, Marmara Sailing Club's athletes Poyraz Belgen came first, Alaz Eligür came second, and Defne Beysel came third.
