dnata has become the first combined air services provider to receive environmental management certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), in recognition of its strong commitment to sustainability across its diverse portfolio of operations in the United Arab Emirates.
IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) is a certification program developed to independently assess the commitment of aviation stakeholders such as airlines, airports, cargo handling or shipping companies and handling facilities to continuously improve their environmental performance and sustainability.
IATA's comprehensive assessment included 74 mandatory and three optional modules and rigorously evaluated dnata's sustainability practices and efforts across its extensive UAE operations. In addition to company headquarters, ground handling and cargo, dnata's airport brand marhaba and in-flight catering joint venture Alpha Flight Services (Alpha) also received IEnvA certification within the scope of the accommodation module. DUBZ company, which deals with luggage technology and logistics for dnata, also received the certificate. This remarkable result demonstrates dnata's commitment to maintaining the highest sustainability standards.
Steve Allen, dnata Group CEO, said: “We are extremely proud to be the first combined air services provider in the UAE to achieve the full scope of IEnvA certification. This achievement is a testament to our team's commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices throughout our operations. “We will continue to invest in people, infrastructure and equipment to maximize environmental efficiency while consistently providing best-in-class service to our customers and passengers in the UAE and beyond.”
Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA's Senior Vice President of Sustainability, said: “I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to dnata on achieving full IEnvA certification in the UAE. This is a remarkable achievement that reflects their unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible business practices. “I appreciate the efforts of everyone involved and hope that dnata continues to successfully fulfill its role in our industry's sustainability journey.”
dnata recently announced that it is on track to reduce its carbon footprint and landfill waste by 2024% by 20 as part of its two-year green operations strategy. The company previously committed $100 million to implement green technologies and initiatives across its businesses to achieve its strategic goals. The company's recent key initiatives include continued significant investment in infrastructure, green floor support solutions and process improvement.
