China's first commercial monorail suspended train line started operating in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei, one of the central provinces of the country. Optics Valley Traffic Company, the operator of the transportation line, announced that the first operational section of the project covers a total distance of 10,5 kilometers with six stops. The vehicle, which moves suspended on a single rail, operates 12 hours a day with a trip every ten minutes.

The maximum speed of the train hanging on a single rail is 60 kilometers per hour. Since the entire transportation process, such as moving, stopping at stops, opening and closing doors, is done automatically, there is no need for human intervention.

Xie Hongzhen, a staff member of the operating company, said that the monorail design, in which the train is suspended from a single beam, is a smart operating solution. Compared to traditional railway lines or two-line subways, trains suspended on a single rail provide a more fluid journey within the city and are not affected by other traffic processes and the comings and goings of pedestrians.

In the monorail system, also known as “Optics Valley Photon”, trains are suspended below the rail because the road is higher; Thus, passengers can explore the city they see under their feet from a different and different angle throughout the route, thanks to the glass on the floor. The monorail train has started to attract tourists from all over the country since its first test run last May.
