Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom General Manager Aleksey Likhachev and the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey Alparslan Bayraktar met at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant (NGP) site, which is under construction in Mersin. Bayraktar and his entourage were at the Akkuyu NPP construction site, AKKUYU NÜKLEER A.Ş. He was welcomed by project managers led by General Manager Anastasia Zoteeva.

General Manager Anastasia Zoteeva gave information about the progress of the construction of the nuclear power plant. After his meeting with the Turkish Minister of Energy, Rosatom General Manager Aleksey Likhachev met with representatives of the contractors carrying out construction and installation works at the Akkuyu NPP site.
Evaluating the progress of the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant, Likhachev pointed out the intensity of the construction works and said: «Thanks to the successful cooperation of the Russian and Turkish teams, the project continues on schedule in all four power units. We are finishing the general construction work this year and plan to start the initial phase of the first unit. We hope to move into the physical start-up phase next year and the first electricity generation will begin. Rosatom always fulfills its commitments and fully carries out the tasks set by the Russian and Turkish leaders».
Likhachev, General Manager of Russian State Nuclear Energy Corporation Rosatom, stated that the implementation of the first nuclear power plant project in Turkey is of great importance for the two countries and continued: "Not only does it participate in the development of the energy sector, which is new for Turkey, but it also makes an important contribution to the infrastructure of the region."
