Bandırma Museum Ship, which is a replica of the Bandırma Ferry on which Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk came from Istanbul to Samsun with his 18 comrades in arms on May 19, 1919, is visited by tens of thousands of people every year. The museum, which is under the responsibility of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, attracts the intense attention of those who want to experience the spirit of the 'National Struggle'. The number of visitors to the Bandırma Museum Ship and the War of Independence Open Air Museum is increasing every year. 2001 thousand people visited the Bandırma Museum Ship and National Struggle Open Air Museum, which was built in 18 and opened as a museum on May 2003, 2023, in the first 8 months of 276. This is a very important museum for our city and our country. Because Bandırma Ferry had an important role in the beginning of the War of Independence. Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades, whom Bandırma Ferry brought from Istanbul to Samsun 104 years ago, changed the history of a country. Our citizens of all age groups, young and old, who visit here feel the spirit of the 'National Struggle'. We see that our number of visitors increases over the years. "I invite everyone, especially our children and young people, to visit this precious museum," he said.

ATATÜRK'S PRINCIPAL GUN IS ON EXHIBITION

In the Bandırma Museum Ship and the National Struggle Open Air Museum, there is a copy of the document stating that Atatürk accepted his birthday as 19 May. The original 1923 Ottoman edition of the Lausanne Peace Treaty is one of the most important historical documents of the museum.

In the museum, where a historical journey is carried out based on the documents including the duty instruction, the British Visa, the Headquarters Committee, Mustafa Kemal Pasha's telegram informing him of his arrival in Samsun and important documents regarding the journeys to Havza, Amasya and Erzurum are exhibited.

In the exhibition hall, there are also replicas of Atatürk's original Belgian-made Nagant principality gun, the Dolmabahçe Palace, and the clothes he wore on the Savarona Yacht.

THERE ARE 14 BOOKS WRITTEN BY ATATÜRK

The reflections of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's death on the Samsun press, the mourning ceremonies held in Samsun, Atatürk's death report, his will and notarized copies of the testament taken from the Republic archive are exhibited in the museum, as well as examples from 14 books written by the great leader during his lifetime.

On the back deck, which is the exit area of ​​the Bandırma Ferry, there is a cabin called furnishing hall. In this cabin, which has 5 sculptures, a meeting moment of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades in arms is animated. There are many works such as compass, speed control panel and balance compass in the Captain's Mansion, which is located in the middle part of the ship, where sculptures representing the ship's Captain, Assistant and Clerk are located.

Located on the front deck and arranged as a cabin, the room was designed similarly to the bedroom in Atatürk's Savarona Yacht, and there are chairs, bedsteads and nightstands from the 1900s made of walnut wood. In the area just across from the bedroom, there is the warehouse part of the ship.

Within the Bandırma Museum Ship and the National Struggle Open Air Museum, which was established on an area of ​​35 thousand square meters; There are the longest ceramic reliefs of Turkey, representing the Battle of Çanakkale and the pouring of the enemy into the sea from İzmir, the inscription of the martyrs of 1200 martyrs from Samsun and its surrounding districts, 10 bronze reliefs describing the National Struggle, and the National Liberation Monument with seven figures. .
