Ankara Metropolitan Municipality ASKİ Sports Club, which has trained many Olympic, World and European Champions, continues to make its name known to the world in the international tournaments it participates in.

At the 2023 World Wrestling Championship held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, ASKİ Sports National Wrestler Taha Akgül won the bronze medal in the freestyle 125 kilos and earned his quota for the Paris Olympics. Akgül, who defeated his Hungarian opponent Daniel Ligeti 5-0, returned home as the third in the world.

AKGÜL'S PROMISE OF GOLD IN THE OLYMPICS

Akgül, who qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, was welcomed by ASKİ Sports Club's managers, coaches, athletes and citizens at Esenboğa Airport.

Akgül, who has 1 Olympic, 3 World and 10 European championships in his career, stated that his new goal is to get a gold medal at the Paris Olympics and said, “We prepared very well, we did everything necessary, but the bronze medal was granted. I think this Olympic quota and bronze medal earned before the Olympic year are important. The world championships held before the Olympics are always the most difficult competitions. I can say that we had a very difficult World Championship. We will learn the necessary lessons and be better prepared for the Paris Olympics. Let's promise our nation a gold medal in Paris. This means a little more work is needed. We are athletes who are aware of this. Why shouldn't the gold medal come to Paris for the second time? "We will work with all our strength for this," he said.

ÇAKMAR: “WE WANT TO WIN THE OLYMPIC CHAMPIONSHIP AND RETURN TO OUR COUNTRY”

Stating that they aim to make everyone in Turkey smile by working hard at the 2024 Paris Olympics, ASKİ Sports Club General Coordinator Abdullah Çakmar said, “We would love to win gold medals. It was the toughest World Championship in the last four years. Our Team Captain Taha Akgül has been at the top for 14 years. Now we have put everything on Taha's shoulders, we always want Taha to be the champion. It is easy to say that he has 3 World, 10 European and 1 Olympic championships. We want to put a little more of this burden on our new athletes and make Taha comfortable. We have a difficult process ahead of us. "We want to prepare well with our team, win the second Olympic championship and return to our country," he said.

ASKİ Sports Board of Directors member Ruhi Bedir thanked the entire technical team and athletes and said:

“My athlete friends showed all their best. They gave us this honor. There is also our Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Mansur Yavaş, whom I would like to thank here. "They never spared all their material and moral support."
