Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital Urology and Sexual Dysfunction Specialist Prof. Dr. Enis Rauf Coşkuner emphasized that sexual dysfunctions and decreased sexual desire are no longer unsolvable, talked about the new generation treatment methods for the embarrassing problem, and made important warnings and suggestions.

Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital Urology and Sexual Dysfunction Specialist Prof. Dr. Enis Rauf Coşkuner stated that sexual reluctance, the prevalence of which can reach 50 percent in the society, can cause very serious problems and even divorce between couples, and said that today very important progress has been made in the treatment of these problems.

While sometimes important factors such as diabetes, heart, thyroid and kidney disease and hormonal problems may lie under it, sometimes stress, fatigue, aging and psychological factors can cause this 'embarrassing' problem and even go to the doctor. Acıbadem Bakırköy Hospital Urology and Sexual Dysfunction Specialist Prof. Dr. Enis Rauf Coşkuner stated that low sexual desire may not always be perceived as a problem by the individual, but that healthy individuals constitute a healthy society and that sexuality is an indispensable part of this: “Human body health is a whole. Our sexuality is part of this unity. Unfortunately, we encounter many personal, familial and social determinants of sexuality throughout our lives. For the most part, we prefer to accept sanctions to avoid conflict rather than fight them. Therefore, besides our lack of education on the subject, we also escape. However, a body that denies its sexuality is incomplete. Demanding sexuality is the most natural right. It is an escape from oneself not to think that even hearing the request of such a natural process can be a problem.” said.

Men apply more

While the incidence of sexual desire disorder in our country can reach 50 in men, men are the predominant in doctor applications. Mentioning that one of the reasons for this is 'the wrong social belief that sexuality is primarily a man's right and duty', Prof. Dr. Coşkuner continued his words as follows:

“The approach in women is at the level of acceptance and natural vision. However, the incidence rates in the society are much higher than the statistics. The main problem here is; Beyond gender differences, it's a couples problem. It is not correct to examine the whole in all areas of sexuality only in parts. Therefore, the most correct and appropriate approach in this regard; is to examine the couples as a whole. If people accept the naturalness of this and approach the event, more efficient results will be obtained. As you see and show sexuality as part of the natural, things will get easier. First, a body that does not run away from itself, then a person who does not run away from his partner, and ultimately a concept of a couple that sees the problem and does not run away from his specialist will develop. Enabling this to occur should be the aim of the social structure and its components. For this reason, we all have an important role to play at every level of society.”

It can be seen at any stage of life.

prof. Dr. Coşkuner stated that low sexual desire can occur from the first period of sexual activities, that is, throughout life, or it can occur at any stage of his life.

Speaking about the causes of low sexual desire in men, Coşkuner said:

“Hormonal: Androgen deficiency (especially low testosterone hormone), hyperprolactinemia (high prolactin hormone), thyroid disorders Psychological: Anger and anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress syndrome Drug-related: As a result of side effects of some drugs used for other purposes (such as antidepressant treatment) Relationship conflict Chronic diseases: Coronary heart disease, heart failure, diabetes, stroke, kidney failure etc., erectile dysfunction, aging.”

Coşkuner listed the common causes in women as follows:

“Medical: Many chronic diseases, especially hormonal disorders (estrogen, prolactin, testosterone, thyroid hormones), diabetes, hypertension, urinary incontinence, arthritis, neurological diseases can cause this problem. Psychological: Many reasons such as bad sexual experiences, stress and fatigue, inability to focus, anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, insecurity in body image can cause this problem. Problems with the relationship: Sexual problems of the partner, inadequacy in the relationship, inability to communicate with the partner about sexuality. Some drugs; Drug groups used in the treatment of some diseases may also negatively affect women in this direction. Cultural: The society and culture in which the woman lives, her perception of sexuality, the roles and restrictions imposed on women in sexuality can be effective.”

Effective treatment with new generation methods

Stating that a wide variety of factors can cause low sexual desire in women, Prof. Dr. Enis Rauf Coskuner; He said that in the treatment of men, many options can be used, starting with patient education, from hormonal or non-hormonal drug therapy to psychological therapy techniques:

prof. Dr. Coşkuner spoke about the new treatment methods as follows:

“A growing understanding of human sexuality and sexual desire has begun to offer new solutions to problems. In particular, the clear determination of the areas that govern sexuality on the central nervous system and new treatment methods that can be effective on them are promising, and even products that are offered for active use are gradually coming to the fore. The last century was a time when we started to understand human sexuality, this century has started to be a time when the collected information turns into solutions to problems, and more is likely to come.”
