The I. TRNC Nuclear Medicine Symposium, which was held for the first time in the TRNC with the cooperation of the Near East University Faculty of Medicine and the Near East University Hospital, was held with the main theme of “Molecular Imaging and Therapies”. “I. TRNC Nuclear Medicine Symposium” was held face to face at the Near East University İrfan Günsel Congress Center.

In the symposium, where current developments, problems and various solution methods in the field of nuclear medicine were discussed, state-of-the-art treatment methods in the diagnosis and treatment of various diseases were discussed with a multidisciplinary approach. Academicians, healthcare professionals and students showed great interest in the symposium, which was held in five sessions.

At the symposium, Near East University Head of Nuclear Medicine Department Prof. Dr. Nuri Arslan also shared information about the diagnosis and treatment methods they pioneered in the field of nuclear medicine in the TRNC. prof. Dr. Nuri Arslan, emphasizing that he is happy to host the "TRNC Nuclear Medicine Symposium", which was held for the first time, said, "We held a seminal symposium by exchanging ideas with our colleagues from different countries and the experiences shared by our physicians."

Current diagnosis and treatments discussed

The opening speeches were made by Near East University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan and Near East University Chief Physician Prof. Dr. In the first session of the symposium held by Müfit C. Yenen, information about the history of nuclear medicine in Azerbaijan, Turkey and the TRNC was given and current treatment methods were explained. Information was shared about the current target-oriented radionuclide diagnosis and treatment method “radioteranostic”, the application areas of which are increasing rapidly in Turkey and the TRNC as in the rest of the world.

In the second session of the symposium, the production and operating models of radioactive drugs used in PET CT, which has an important place in the diagnosis of diseases, were discussed. The importance of preclinical studies using experimental animals and the development of targeted radiopharmaceuticals was another agenda of the second session.

In the third and fourth sessions of the symposium, diagnosis of prostate, primary and metastatic liver cancers and neuroendocrine tumors and targeted radionuclide therapies were discussed.

In the symposium, where the importance of targeted personalized radionuclide therapies was emphasized once again, systemic radionuclide treatment methods that prevent pain and increase the quality of life in cancer patients with extensive bone metastasis who continue to have pain despite using multiple drugs were discussed.

prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan: “As we continue on our way with the mission of raising good physicians, we share the scientific studies carried out within our faculty with the scientific world in order to contribute to society and human health.”

Near East University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan started her speech at the opening of the symposium by emphasizing that the Near East University Faculty of Medicine will give its 10th term graduates this year. Stating that the practice opportunities provided by the Near East University Hospital, which was opened in 2010, the doctor candidates who receive medical education have the chance to develop themselves in a versatile way. Dr. Mocan said, "While we continue on our way with the mission of raising good physicians, we share the scientific studies carried out within our faculty with the scientific world in order to contribute to society and human health."

Stating that the Near East University has an international identity with its students coming from many countries of the world, Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan said, “As one of the most respected medical faculties of the world, we aim to bring vision with the international scientific activities we are a part of.”

prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen: “We successfully apply radionuclide therapies in prostate, primary and metastatic liver cancers and neuroendocrine tumors.”

Starting his opening speech by sharing his belief that the XNUMXst TRNC Nuclear Medicine Symposium will contribute greatly to scientific studies in this field, Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen talked about the work they carry out with the Cancer Center operating within the Near East University Hospital. "We provide gold standard medical oncology, oncological surgery and radiation oncology services at our first and full-fledged Cancer Center in Northern Cyprus, with state-of-the-art equipment and the necessary physician staff from all departments," said Prof. Dr. Yenen emphasized that they have also successfully applied radionuclide treatments in prostate, primary and metastatic liver cancers and neuroendocrine tumors.
