Cartoon Network continues to raise awareness of children on climate change and to enlighten them for a sustainable future with the Climate Protectors project, which it launched in 2021. Cartoon Network and TURMEPA organized a special event to contribute to raising children's awareness of climate change on June 5, World Environment Day. Turkey, Middle East, North Africa, Greece Children's Channels Programs and Broadcasting Director Zümrüt Pakoy; “Through our storytelling and characters, at Cartoon Network we always strive to be a companion for our viewers on their journey to discover and learn about the world. With our Cartoon Network Climate Protectors project, we aimed to raise awareness about climate change, to equip children with the skills to fight environmental problems and to empower them. With the Climate Protectors project, which we have implemented in 6 countries to raise awareness of children aged 12-18 on climate change, we focus on mobilizing children by explaining in simple language what they can easily do in their daily lives for a sustainable future. In our project, we give them easy tasks where they can be part of the fight against climate change, while at the same time we try to encourage them by sharing the journey of becoming climate guardians of their peers around the world.” said.

1 million tasks completed for climate change

Pakoy said that within the scope of the project, children undertook tasks such as turning off the devices in standby mode in categories such as travel, water, energy, animals, food, creativity, using shopping bags for the second time, and making compost from leftover food. Children from Europe, Africa and the Middle East have done the climate change tasks on the website more than 1 million times.” said.

Emerald Pakoy; “Today, we came together with TURMEPA as part of our project, and we provided training to 20 children and enabled them to actively support the climate struggle. We encouraged children and their friends to make Cartoon Network Climate Protectors, to whom we conveyed our messages through fun games and activities throughout the day.”

TURMEPA General Manager Semiha Öztürk said, “Education is one of the most important fields of activity of our association, which was established 29 years ago in order to leave a blue future for our children. To date, we have reached 9 million people with our environmental and marine trainings, and our 19 educational films have reached more than 580 students by being featured on EBA, the digital platform of the Ministry of National Education. Again, together with the Ministry of National Education, we shot five educational films for our teachers, this time under the titles Zero Waste and Climate Change. With our trainings, we try to explain that the best way to protect the seas is not to pollute, Zero Waste and Zero Waste Blue. This cooperation is very valuable to tell our children what they can do for the good of our world and to contribute to their growth as environmentally sensitive generations. Thank you to the entire Cartoon Network team.” said.
