In the central part of the Indian Ocean, a Chinese fishing boat capsized yesterday, killing 39 people, including Chinese citizens.

A total of 17 Chinese, 17 Indonesian and 5 Filipino crew members were on board. Search efforts continue.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered that all resources be mobilized to rescue the 39 people on the Chinese fishing boat.

Xi Jinping asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Transport and the Shandong province government to immediately initiate an emergency response mechanism, send rescue teams, and conduct search and rescue efforts in coordination with international aid forces.

Xi said the potential security risks in offshore operations should be examined and the early warning system should be strengthened to ensure the safety of life and property of the people.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang also instructed the relevant units to use all their means to minimize the loss of life.

Apart from China, the search and rescue forces of Australia and some other countries also reached the waters where the incident took place.
