Trainings Continue for Honey Producers from Ankara

The 'Beekeeping Academy' organized by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality to develop beekeeping in the capital and to brand Ankara honey continues. Beekeeping trainings, which were held for the third time this year, were held in Polatlı, Kalecik and Ayaş, and after the trainings, beekeeper masks and bellows were distributed to the producers.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues by diversifying the training programs it started in order to increase efficiency and quality in agriculture and animal husbandry.

In the 'Beekeeping Academy', which was established within the scope of the protocol signed with Ankara University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Central Beekeepers Association in 2020, honey producers are informed about the factors affecting bee health, increasing yield, correct spraying, adapting bees to climate change, and creating added value in the market.

Nurgül Söğüt, Branch Manager of ABB Livestock Services, pointed out that thanks to the Beekeeping Academy, honey producers have increased the quality of honey by being informed, “We organize both theoretical and practical trainings to encourage the production of bee products that will create added value for Ankara beekeepers. Our aim is to increase the welfare level of the bee and the beekeeper. We will continue to support beekeepers in the coming days," he said.

Suat Musabeşeoğlu, Secretary General of the Central Union of Beekeepers of Turkey, stating the impact of global climate change on beekeeping and the problems it creates, said, “Global climate change is a fact of the world, at this point, our beekeepers need to adapt as well as bees adapt. For this, we need to increase educational activities and serve all our beekeepers in our country. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality played a major role at this point. Both theoretical and practical trainings are organized by going to the districts. In this way, the service is brought to the feet of our beekeepers.”

Ankara University Department of Pharmacology Toxicology Research Assist. Dr. Sedat Sevin also pointed out that the trainings will continue by diversifying and made the following evaluations:

“Recently, our beekeepers have been wearing out due to reasons such as experiencing a winter like summer with the effect of climate change. We need to raise awareness of our beekeepers on issues such as correct feeding methods and fighting diseases. We also design trainings on different bee diseases, growing new bee products and creating added value in the market.”

Huseyin Karatas: “I have been a beekeeper for 50 years. We did not have a chance to renew ourselves before, we could not reach this information. There are all kinds of possibilities now. We want to benefit from these trainings.”

Ersan Bugdayci : “I love beekeeping, it is a difficult profession. We had a lack of knowledge about medication. The most important thing in bees is feeding and spraying. It is important for us to raise awareness through trainings.”

Sündüz Not Empty: “I love bees, but I face different problems while beekeeping. For this reason, I want to advance myself in the field of beekeeping by getting education.”

Şükrü Blank: “I attended this training to get more efficiency. I was trying to improve myself on the internet and with books. This training of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality was very useful, I am open to any kind of training. I am ready to apply all the knowledge I have learned.”
