An onshore wind farm with a total on-board power generation capacity of 550 megawatts has been connected to the power system of southwest China's Yunnan province. The facility in question is stated to be the largest operating wind farm in southwestern China. According to the company that carried out the construction, the turbines used in the project, producing 6,7 megawatts each, are the ones with the highest capacity among the wind farms located in the mountainous regions of the country.

The project is expected to send 1,4 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the energy system each year. According to Zeng Xiaohong, General Manager of China Three Gorges Renewables (Group) Co., Ltd. Yunnan Branch, this amount is enough to meet the annual electricity consumption of 600 households.

This project will secure the state's energy supply by completing the missing production of hydroelectric power plants, which account for 80 percent of the total on-board energy capacity, during dry periods.
