Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality has started special mind games trainings for 'children whose parents are deaf but not hearing-impaired' and deaf children, which are defined as CODA (Children of Deaf Adults) in the world.
MIND GAMES EDUCATION
The project implemented by the Metropolitan Municipality is carried out jointly with the Disabled and Elderly Services Branch Directorate and the Non-formal Education Branch Directorate. Mind games training; whose parents are deaf but not deaf; It is given to children living with two languages and two cultures (CODA) and children with hearing impairment. The trainings are given once a week for 1 hours in order to socialize the hearing impaired children and CODA children starting school age. The children participating in the training and their companions are taken from their homes and brought to the Izmit Mevlana Cultural Center, where the course is held, and are returned to their homes at the end of the course.
TRAININGS YEAR-LONG
With the mind games where 10 hearing impaired and 10 CODA children are educated, it is aimed to contribute to the development of intelligence, quick thinking and finding solutions in order to complete the deficiencies experienced by children in the field of education. The authorities stated that these trainings will continue throughout the year and will positively support the education life of the children.
EDUCATION OF THE HEARING HANDICAPPED
The degree of hearing loss is important in determining the special education needs of hearing-impaired individuals. The degree of hearing impairment is usually defined as mild, moderate or severe, depending on how well a person can hear sound frequency intensity. The need for education begins with a moderate hearing impairment. As the degree of hearing impairment increases, the communication models and training techniques used will also differ.
