43 airports operated by DHMI were entitled to receive Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates within the scope of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Program conducted by the Airports Council International (ACI).
In 2021, applications were made for the first time with 12 airports and Level 1 certificates were received. This year, the requirements for emission reduction activities and other processes carried out at these 12 airports were fulfilled and the certificates held were upgraded to Level 2. In addition, applications were made to the program for the first time for 31 airports, and Level 1 certificates were received after the completion of the processes.
The General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure carries out intensive studies to minimize the damage caused by carbon emissions to human health and the environment at passenger and environmentally friendly airports.
In line with its goal of ensuring a sustainable airport operation with the measures taken against global warming and climate change, it works to reduce energy and natural resource consumption.
These environmentalist and sustainable works, which are among the priorities of DHMI, are also appreciated by international authorities. With the studies carried out within the scope of the Carbon-Free Airport Project, which was initiated in line with DHMI's environmental and sustainable policies, activities for carbon emission management and reduction are carried out at airports.
Accordingly, the activities carried out are documented within the scope of the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) Program carried out by the Airports Council International (ACI). Among the ACI Member Airport Operators on a global scale, there are over 400 certified airports in total, and DHMİ became the Airport Operator with the most certificates with 43 airports. Efforts for the continuation of these studies and the reduction of carbon emissions originating from airports are carried on with determination.
