The 'Dark World' About Âşık Veysel Will Meet With The Audience For The First Time

The family collection, including the mask taken from the 50th anniversary of the death of Turkey's great folk poet Âşık Veysel, will be exhibited at AKM Istanbul. The exhibition titled “Veysel Goes, His Name Remains” organized with the contribution of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, on the occasion of the declaration of 2023 as the “Year of Minstrel Veysel” by UNESCO, will meet with art lovers on April 7th.

The opening of the exhibition will be held by Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Özgül Özkan Yavuz at 14.00 at AKM Istanbul Gallery.

Curated by Erkan Doğanay, the exhibition will consist of the family collections of Nazender Süzer Gökçe and Gürsel Gökçe, family members of Âşık Veysel.

Aiming to bring Âşık Veysel's life and interviews, articles and news with him to the light of day, the exhibition will feature photographs from the lens of Ara Güler, Fikret Otyam, Ozan Sağdıç, Mustafa Türkyılmaz, Ergun Çağatay and Anadolu Agency photojournalists of the period.

The paintings of Eren and Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu and Orhan Peker, the statue of Alper Çınar, the mask taken from the face of Âşık Veysel by the painter Yusuf Toprak when he passed away will be among the important works of the exhibition.

In the exhibition, which will bring the visitors together with the 4-volume book “Aşık Veysel in the Press” prepared in Braille alphabet for the visually impaired, the audio version of the same book performed by the theater artists will also be introduced.

The film "Dark World", which realistically reflects the life in Anatolia and featuring Âşık Veysel, will meet with the audience for the first time in its original form.

The audience of the film, which will be broadcast for the first time in an exhibition setting about the folk poet Âşık Veysel, will have the opportunity to watch the production in its uncut form.

Metin Erksan is the director of the 1952 film whose script was written by Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu.

The doors of the exhibition titled “Veysel Goes, His Name Remains” will be open until April 23 at AKM Istanbul Gallery to commemorate the great folk poet, Âşık Veysel, who spoke to humanity with his instrument and word.

The exhibition, which can be visited free of charge at AKM Istanbul Gallery between 11.00:19.00 and XNUMX:XNUMX except Mondays, will be moved to Ankara and Izmir after Istanbul.
