The European Quality Award was presented to President Ekrem Yüce, who attended the European Quality Summit and European Quality Awards ceremony in London. Yüce said, “We are signing projects that will set an example for the world in agriculture as well. This award belongs to our Sakarya”.
Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Yüce attended the European Quality Summit and European Quality Awards ceremony in London. President Yüce was presented the European Quality Award at the ceremony for the innovative agricultural activities carried out in Sakarya.
Visit to the Ambassador
Mayor Yüce, who received the award from the hand of London Southwark Mayor Sunil Chopra, said, “This award belongs to our Sakarya”. At the ceremony, President Yüce, Dr. Necip Uludağ and Fahri Ustaoğlu accompanied him. President Yüce also visited the London Ambassador Osman Koray Ertaş. While Ertaş expressed his satisfaction with the visit, Chairman Yüce expressed his gratitude for their kind hospitality.
We adopt new approaches
Speaking at the ceremony, President Ekrem Yüce said, “Our Sakarya is one of the rare cities that contains many cultures, history and nature. Being aware of this feature of our city, we evaluate our work under the best conditions. In a world that both preserves the traces of our civilization and our history, adapts to the conditions of the new era and becomes global, 'I exist too.' We work day and night for a Sakarya that can say: Management is a job of the heart. Municipalities are at the forefront of the institutions that are most intertwined with people in public services. As Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, we continue our routine municipal services, as well as adopting new approaches for the comfort and future of our citizens.
We collected awards in Sports
Expressing that Sakarya has also been awarded the titles of World Cycle-Friendly City and European Sports City with the investments made in sports, Mayor Yüce said, “We have taken important steps to make our Sakarya a leading city in sports. In 2021, we became the first and only city in our country by taking the title of World Bicycle City, which was awarded by the International Cycling Union as a result of long examinations. We received the title of 2023 European City of Sports as a result of our sports activities, organizations and supports as well as cycling projects.
With the title of European Sports City, we are creating a great awareness in the further development of the sports infrastructure of our Sakarya and the promotion of sports, tolerance, fair play and healthy lifestyles among all age groups.”
Agricultural projects exemplary to the world
Expressing that they have accomplished exemplary projects for the world, Mayor Yüce said, “As Sakarya Metropolitan Municipality, we always carry out our work with an innovative framework. As we are in sports, we are signing projects that will set an example for the world in agriculture as well. Today, agriculture is an important strategic sector in Sakarya. We present one of the world's most advanced examples of soilless and greenhouse agriculture with our Greenhouse Excellence Center. We produce millions of medicinal and aromatic plants in 15 varieties in our Botanical Paradise Valley. With the UTÇEM project, we are creating a strong system with the vision of 4.0 in agriculture. In the project, we have developed an automatic system that determines the water need of the plants, fertilization time, spraying time and harvest time. In addition to these, we are breeding buffalo, saffron and oyster mushrooms.
